Pulmonary Rehabilitation

 

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a program of education and exercise classes that teaches you about your lungs, how to exercise and do activities with less shortness of breath, and how to live better with your lung condition. The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is a supervised, medically prescribed exercise and education program consisting of 18 sessions taking about 10 weeks to complete.  In order to join the program, you must have a prescription from your physician. Your physician will continue to provide your primary care throughout the program.

Who Should Attend:
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is designed for patients with pulmonary diseases such as emphysema, asthma, chronic bronchitis, fibrosis, and others...
-    whose shortness of breath compromises their lifestyle
-    who want to learn more about their disease and ways to manage it
-    who want to learn ways to improve their breathing
-    who want to attain the highest level of independence

Exercise:
Our program provides an individualized exercise program that is tailored to each individual's fitness level and capabilities and will be designed to improve flexibility, strength, and cardiopulmonary endurance. Exercise will help you feel better and become stronger by helping you get in better shape. Our exercise program incorporates stretching, strength and aerobic training.

Education:
Our program includes education for you and your family regarding many aspects of lung disease that are important to you. Patient education is essential to providing patients with the tools to feel empowered and confident that they can better manage their condition.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation professionals at Central Peninsula Hospital understand that having a chronic respiratory illness can be frightening. Often, patients have questions and concerns that have not been addressed. Participation in pulmonary rehabilitation offers an opportunity to find answers to your questions and concerns in a safe and comfortable environment. If we can't answer your questions, we will help you or your family members find the people that can.

Cost:
Our program is a physician-prescribed and medically supervised program. Most insurance companies reimburse for a significant amount of the cost. For specific benefit information, please contact your insurance company.
