You can count on Central Peninsula Hospital for a full range of high quality Imaging services.  The advanced technologies we offer help pinpoint and treat many problems that used to require surgery.  Our team of Board-Certified Radiologists, skilled technologists and professional staff are here for you, making sure you get the best care possible.  Our Imaging Services department provides a wide range of clinical and specialty services that include the following:

Diagnostic Imaging

We provide routine diagnostic and fluoroscopic services.  Routine diagnostic studies may range from simple x-rays to complicated fluoroscopic studies of the upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

Digital Mammography Exams

At Central Peninsula Hospital both screening and diagnostic digital mammograms are performed. Kenai Health Clinic provides a screening only program for a more rapid turn around time for those on the go. Interpretation of the studies for both locations are done by a Radiologist who specializes in mammography.  Digital mammography in comparison to conventional film mammography has shown to be significantly more accurate in screening for breast cancer in women who:  are under age 50, of any age with extremely dense breast tissue on mammograms, or who are pre- or perimenopausal women of any age.  Other benefits of digital mammography include less radiation exposure, shorter exam times and the ability to store the images on a CD-ROM.

Computer Axial Tomography Procedures (CT Scans)

Computer Axial Tomography, also commonly called a CT or CAT scan, is an x-ray procedure in which three-dimensional images of the body are constructed by a sophisticated computer.  Central Peninsula Hospital has a Spiral CT Scanner that generates incredibly precise images from a variety of angles.  Highly trained and certified CT technologists perform these exams Monday through Friday and are on call for emergency needs.

Ultrasound/Sonography

Ultrasound/Sonography exams are by physician referral and are performed by registered technologists.  Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to create images on film.  The test can be used for a number of different purposes including obtaining views of a developing fetus, the heart and blood vessels of the body, the liver, gallbladder, and kidney, to name a few.  Because there is no radiation associated with this procedure, there is no risk to a developing fetus.

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine exams or scans are offered by registered technologists, providing physicians with yet another method of diagnosing medical problems without invasive procedures.  Nuclear medicine techniques/procedures make it possible to gather information on the function and structure of organs.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Central Peninsula Hospital offers MRI exams based on a physician referral for diagnostic purposes.  MRI technology uses a strong magnetic field to generate precise images of the body to assist physicians in diagnosis of disease.
