CPGH offers two major operating rooms
and one minor room; 19 physicians, and 22 support staff to provide
optimal care. In addition, our Post Anesthesia Care Unit and our
Outpatient Surgery Department support Surgical Services.
Surgical
specialties include orthopedics, general, vascular, gynecological,
ophthalmology, ENT and pediatrics. All specialties are equipped with
state of the art equipment and instrumentation. Nursing care and
assessment during the operative or diagnostic procedure is provided
by registered nurses dedicated to quality patient care and who are
certified by the American Operating Rooms Association, and the
American Post Anesthesia Association.
Outpatient Department
Nationally, over 20 million surgical procedures are performed
annually on an outpatient basis (not requiring an overnight stay).
This is made possible by the technological advancements in operating
equipment and drugs administered by anesthesiologists that reduce
recovery time. Admission to the outpatient department includes
pre-operative preparation, post-operative care, education, and
discharge planning. Nursing care in the Outpatient Department is
provided by highly skilled registered nurses focused on the
individual patient and their family.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy means to view with the aid of a scope. The scope is a
flexible device in which modern fiber optic technology enables the
physician to look inside the body without making an incision. The
device can make color photographs to aid in the diagnosis and
treatment of various disorders of the digestive and pulmonary
systems. Patients receive mild sedation during the procedure, which
may take up to 60 minutes. Usually the entire procedure from
admission to discharge takes less than two hours. Nursing care is
provided by Advanced Life Support Certified registered nurses, with
skills focused in providing care to patients undergoing various
endoscopic procedures.
Oncology
Oncology services are available to meet the needs of those patients
under going chemotherapy and/or infusion therapies. Education and
nursing care is provided by registered nurses certified by the
National Oncology Nurses Society. The department provides a
comfortable, relaxed atmosphere for patients and their families.
Individuals receiving therapy may select various reading and
educational materials from the library, in addition to music and
videos. A cancer support group is sponsored by the Oncology
Department and meets every first and third Wednesday of each month
at 7pm. For more information, please call (907) 714-4490.
