Nuclear Medicine
is a Radiologic field that utilizes radioactive isotopes, which are
injected into the patient as part of the imaging procedure. Nuclear
medicine techniques/procedures make it possible to gather
information on the function and structure of organs. Nuclear
medicine uses very small doses of radioactive materials to diagnose
a disease. These materials are organ specific--meaning that specific
materials are attracted to particular organs.
Nuclear medicine procedures are extremely safe. The amount of
radioactive material introduced into the body is minute and it is
eliminated from the body quickly.
